20 Questions with Tim Kliewer!

In our ongoing quest for newsletter (and accounting) excellence, we decided it might be fun to get to know some of our team members a little better. We threw all our names in a hat and left the order up to fate! Here’s some fun information about Tim!

Tim Kliewer has been with SJHL since 2015. He is a Financial Planner in our McPherson, Hutchinson, and Wichita locations.

The Kliewer Family

Tim with his wife, Lacey, and their three kiddos (L-R) Layton, Sloane, and Kacen (baby #4, Kellan was born Nov. 15th.)

Why did you choose financial planning? I went to school with the hopes of working in financial planning at some point. My grandpa was in financial planning and that gave me an early interest in the profession. The more I learned about it, the more I was drawn to it. He always had a saying of “It’s not what you know, it’s what you can teach.” I had several coaches that impacted me through sports, and it was exciting to think about having the opportunity to coach others towards financial success.

What is one thing you could not live without? My family.

What is the luckiest thing that has ever happened to you? Well, I have a really interesting story on that. The short version is the luckiest thing to ever happen to me was that 16 years and 1 month ago, I had a severe head injury where I almost (and probably should have) died. The luckiest thing wasn’t that I survived, but that while home from school for the year; I guilted this girl into going on a date with my big-headed self. The lucky part is that she said yes...and now she’s my wife and the mother of our soon-to-be 4 kids. God is good!

What would you do for a career if you did not work at SJHL? I think it would be fun to teach a high school or college class on personal finance. That might be my retirement gig someday.

What would you rate 10 out of 10? My wife! She probably won’t see this, so somebody tell her so I can get credit. 🙂

What is something you never want to do again? Learn to walk. I have a 1-year old at home that falls hundreds of times a day. That’s got to hurt!

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Read a book as fast as Chet Buchman.

What is your favorite thing about working at SJHL? The people. I feel like I have family at the office, whether I’m in McPherson, Hutch, or Wichita.

Who inspires you? So many of our clients who started with an idea and turned it into a business. It is absolutely amazing to witness!

kiddos

Kacen, Sloane, and Layton (Aren’t they just too cute?!)

Where is the most beautiful place you have traveled? St. Maarten. There’s a song that has a lyric that says “I can feel the power of the saltwater gospel. I’m as close to God as I can get.” I remember feeling that there.

What is your favorite book? The book that has helped me the most, professionally, is Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. So, I’ll probably go with that.

What do you enjoy doing on a day off work? Doing something fun with the kids. Never a dull moment!

What is your favorite T.V. show or movie? It’s a 3-way tie between Seinfeld, The Office, and Modern Family.

What is the best gift you have ever received? Jesus Christ

What is your favorite food? Basically anything that comes out of my Mom or Grandma’s kitchen.

What chore do you absolutely despise doing? Emptying the dishwasher. Everything on the top rack still has water on it, so you have to dry it all before putting it away. Hate it like poison.

What chore do you actually ENJOY doing? Mowing. You can get the yard looking good, listen to a podcast, and get exercise. The trifecta!

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Jerry Seinfeld.

What would people be surprised to learn about you? If you run into me sometime, ask me about my head injury I mentioned in #3. It’s a good story that usually surprises those I share it with.

What would your dream day consist of? Me and my wife on a beach with white sand...and the kids at Grandma’s. 🙂

BONUS QUESTION Mayo or Miracle Whip? Mayo, of course.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about Tim!
