Celebrating 90 Years: A New Name for the Next Chapter

Article  |  August 04, 2026  |  SJHL

As it celebrates 90 years in business, Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd is entering its next decade under a new name: SJHL.

The change formalizes the name clients, team members and communities have used for years. It also creates a consistent identity as the firm continues to grow, including recent mergers that expanded SJHL’s presence into Topeka, Kansas, and New Mexico.

The SJHL name reflects the firm’s future while honoring the people and values that shaped its first 90 years. Although the name is changing, the firm’s commitment to trusted relationships, exceptional service and helping people reach their goals remains the same.

“Our name is changing, but who we are isn’t,” said Chet Buchman, Managing Partner of SJHL. “For years, our clients have simply called us SJHL. This change reflects that while honoring the people who built this firm over the past 90 years. As we’ve continued to grow and welcome new team members, offices and clients, embracing the SJHL name gives us a strong identity for the future while staying true to what has always mattered—helping people get from where they are…to where they want to be.”

A Name That Honors What Came Before

Founded in 1936, SJHL built its reputation on relationships and its mission to help people reach their goals – getting where they want to be – through providing high-quality advisory, audit, tax, client accounting services and wealth management. Over the years, as the firm grew and the named partners stepped back, its initials became the shorthand clients, referral partners, and employees used naturally — a name that outlasted any one generation of leadership.

"Becoming SJHL isn't about leaving history behind — it's about carrying it forward in the name that's carried us for years already." Chet said.

A Logo That Looks Back — and Forward

Alongside the new name, SJHL unveiled a redesigned logo marking its 90th anniversary — one built to honor the firm's past while pointing toward its mission going forward. The original logo's double-diamond shape, inspired by the architecture of the historic downtown building where the McPherson office is located, has long been paired with the plus (+), minus (–), and equals (=) symbols of the accounting trade. The new mark keeps that same diamond shape — a link to the firm's roots — but adds an arrow in it, symbolizing the firm's mission of moving people closer to their goals.

"We wanted a logo that felt familiar to the people who've trusted us for years, but also captured our mission," Chet Buchman said. "The new mark is a quiet tribute to our roots and a clear statement of helping our clients, communities and each other get where they want to be."

What's Staying the Same

While the name and look are new, SJHL emphasized that its people, leadership, service teams, and client relationships remain unchanged. Clients can expect the same points of contact, the same level of service, and the same commitment to proactive solutions they've relied on for years.

The firm's updated branding will roll out across its website, offices, communications, and marketing materials over the coming weeks.
