Deadline Approaching for Kansas Employers

Dec 3, 2014

Kansas business owners need to be aware of a major change to Kansas Unemployment that could have a significant impact on your Kansas Unemployment Tax.

Several steps need to be taken in order to determine if your business could benefit by making a voluntary contribution. The deadline for making a voluntary contribution is 12/12/2014.

This article is to make you aware of the change to the Kansas Unemployment taxable wage base from $8,000 to $12,000. This change will prove to have a significant impact on your total unemployment taxable wages beginning in 2015.

Several steps need to be taken in order to determine if your business could benefit by making a voluntary contribution.

1. The first step is to open any letter(s) from the Kansas Department of Labor. Your business should have received a 2015 Experience Rating Notice. This notice gives you your assigned 2015 contribution rate.

2. The second step is to estimate your total 2015 taxable unemployment wages. The first $12,000 in earnings for each employee are taxable in 2015. Make sure to consider if you anticipate any significant changes in employee numbers.

3. The third step is to calculate if a voluntary contribution could reduce your total taxes. Please contact us at 620-241-1826 if you would like us to assist you in determining if a voluntary contribution would be a money saving strategy for your business.

The deadline for the voluntary contribution is 12/12/2014.
