Pixel is Headed to Nationals

Nov 13, 2013

Have you ever wondered what accountants do in their spare time? Some of us ride motorcycles, others farm, but Steve Seltzer and his wife Judy hit the road with their dogs to compete. This past weekend the Seltzer family went to Missouri so their oldest pup Pixel could get her last shot at Nationals. She only needed third, but decided first was better.

PixelPixel is a 5 year old Springer Spaniel that Steve takes to compete in English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association (ESSFTA) competitions. Before getting into field trials, Steve did hunt tests with his dogs for 15 years. The main difference between the two is that a hunt test evaluates the dog against a written standard, whereas a field trial is a competition against other dogs. Steve has been going to field trials for three and a half years.

In the past, Pixel has placed first in Northern Colorado, placed at a Nebraska trial and made it through the fourth out of five series in the National Amateur trial two years ago. This weekend, however, was a big one! Pixel placed first in the Missouri Hunting Spaniel Field Trial and met the requirements for her Amateur Field Championship title. This means she qualified for the ESSFTA National Amateur Championship Field Trial, which takes place in two weeks in Wilmington, OH.

Pixel is one of four dogs for the Seltzer family. They have three other Springer Spaniels, including a rescue Springer. Best of luck to Pixel in Ohio!
