Lang Completes Leadership Program

Dec 3, 2012

Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC's Jenny Lang recently graduated from the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants' "20 up to 40" Leadership Program. This program allows young CPAs (up to the age of 40) to develop and enhance leadership skills and network with other professionals from throughout the state. There are five sessions scheduled at various times and locations from January through November. Each session features a different facilitator and includes involvement in various group activities.

Sessions were held in Topeka, Lawrence, Salina, Overland Park, and Wichita. Jenny said that one of her favorite sessions was at the Capital Building in Topeka. "I enjoyed learning about how the Board of Accountancy works and how it oversees the CPA profession within our state."

At the final session in Wichita, participants received a tour of Spirit Aerosystems and presented their group project. The group project involved offering suggestions for improvement to the KSCPA's vision, mission, and core values by working through the strategic planning process offered by the facilitators. Jenny said the program "has been a great opportunity to meet and network with other CPAs from around the state both from public and private industry."

The KSCPA is the professional member organization for Kansas CPAs. The "20 up to 40" Leadership Program was founded four years ago as a way to train the future leaders of the profession and to get them more involved in leadership roles within the KSCPA. SJHL's Chet Buchman was a graduate of the inaugural 2009 class and just finished a 3 year term on the KSCPA's Board of Directors.
