SJHL Implementing Wellness Program

Jul 19, 2012

As you may remember from an article a few months ago, Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC is a participant in the WorkWell KS initiative. This is an initiative created by the Kansas Health Foundation with the goal to make Kansas the healthiest state in the U.S. It is being coordinated by the Wichita Business Coalition on Healthcare. On July 1, SJHL took the first step to implementing their new Wellness Program with the hope of encouraging staff to live a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.

Being well is more than just exercising and eating healthy, it is a lifestyle. And that is how SJHL has tried to approach their Wellness Program. July 1 was the start of a year long points system that rewards employees for preventative care check-ups, exercise, eating healthy, social activity and encouraging others to do the same. Employees are given a list of items and how many points they are worth, they then track their points based on their activity. When they reach a certain amount they can redeem their points for reimbursement on a health item, such as tennis shoes, gym memberships, massage, etc.

This is just one piece of the Program SJHL has put together. Other items include providing healthier drink options for the staff, making sure a healthy food item is available at all company lunches or meetings, encouraging breaks and stretching, as well as training on web resources that allow you to manage your health.

SJHL hopes their involvement in WorkWell KS will not only help their staff, but encourage other companies to implement similar programs. Healthier employees equal happier employees. And happier employees show up and are more productive. It's a win-win!
