Luke Logan (in red) with the MAP IT group

Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd's Luke Logan spent June 10 - 13 in Las Vegas for the AICPA Practitioners Symposium Tech+ Conference and 2012 AAM Summit. This conference brought together accounting professionals including partners, technology departments and marketing managers. The event included around 1600 attendees and took place at the Aria Resort and Casino. While at the event, Luke met up with members of his MAP IT group.

The conference had sessions focusing on practice management, technology and marketing. It basically combined three conferences into one with the hope that attendees would get a well-rounded view and education of the industry and their own firm. The key points on the technology side that were addressed were 1) The move to a more mobile workforce; 2) The need to use mobile devices securely and efficiently for work related tasks and 3) The increasing presence of "Cloud" or Internet based technology solutions.

The MAP IT group is a branch of a managing partner group that was originally an AICPA PCPS sponsored group. Partners from accounting firms across the United States meet to idea share, and SJHL's managing partner Kyle Hawk is a member of this group. The partners then decided it would be a good idea to get the Marketing and IT staff involved to have similar meetings and calls. SJHL's Marketing Manager Jackie Christiansen participates on the marketing side and Luke participates on the IT side. The MAP IT group members that attended the conference met up at the conference and 8 firms were represented.
