Beau after winning his State Championship match.Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC's office manager, Stephanie Thurman, spent a very nerve-wracking couple of days in Virginia the weekend of February 17th. She was there watching her son Beau Johnson compete for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Wrestling Championship in the 132 pound weight class. All of the cheering and worrying was worth it, because Beau walked away with the title!

Beau is a senior at Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, VA. He has had a very successful season up to this point with most of his wins being pins. Beau entered the state tournament seeded at #1 in his weight class. He won the championship match by pin with 12 seconds left in the second period. "After the match I was just overcome with joy. I was just happy that I could reflect on the hard work that my team, my coach and I have undergone," stated Beau.He is also a well-achieved offensive player in soccer and an accomplished golfer.

When asked what contributes to his success the most, Beau replied, "The support from anybody willing to sit in a gym for countless hours and watch wrestling really motivates me to perform. Also, experience on the mat is invaluable. It doesn't matter - win or lose - any mat time is better than none."

His mom was very happy and excited that she could be there to watch him achieve one of his goals. Stephanie has been a vital member of the SJHL staff for 25 years. She has two other sons, Layne who lives in Lawrence and Clay who is a sophomore at Virginia Episcopal School, as well as three step-sons, Taner, Dakota and Bo Thurman who attend school at Maize South in Wichita. She is happily married to James Thurman and resides in McPherson.

Please join us in congratulating Beau and Stephanie!
