SJHL Goes Underground

SJHL Staff and Family

On Saturday, August 27th, members of Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd's staff, their spouses and friends were sent underground to try and solve a murder during the Kansas Underground Salt Museum's semi-annual Murder in the Mine dinner theater presentation of "Clue-less."

After they were outfitted with hard hats and rescuers, the group descended 650 feet underground via a hoist that took them on a minute and a half ride to the bottom. The mine's salt veins stretch from Kansas all the way to New Mexico and it is the only salt museum of its kind in America. The group was allowed to visit the gift shop, tour the galleries and view Underground Vaults and Storage's exhibit that includes antique trains, movie props and original film that is preserved underground.

The theatre production was based on the board game "Clue" and dinner guests were drawn into the plot by playing different parts. At the end of the meal, guests had to try and figure out who committed the murder. Was it Miss Scarlet in the Ballroom with a rope or Professor Plum in the library with a knife?

The Kansas Underground Salt Mine is located at 3504 East Avenue G at Airport Road in Hutchinson. The next dinner theater event will take place in February 2012. Check their website at for more information.
